Cleanaway operates seven landfill sites in the Clayton area. At present four of those are closed and under remediation plans, one is open but inactive and two are open and operational. We conduct rigorous, ongoing environmental monitoring and engineering activities across each of our Clayton sites to ensure we meet environmental compliance and can respond to any issues as a matter of priority.
Cleanaway expects current landfill activities to be largely complete by 2017, however this is dependent on a number of variables so this date should be treated as a guide only.
Although landfills cease to operate once filled, our environmental management of the sites will continue for up to 30 years after closure, depending on the site. In the meantime, Cleanaway is working closely with Kingston City Council and other governing and regulatory bodies to plan and discuss potential future uses of our sites post closure.
As an established operator in Clayton, Transpacific remains strongly committed to the safe and responsible management of waste, regulatory compliance, environmental protection and enhancement of the communities in which we operate. We currently have plans in place to develop a new, state-of-the-art Waste Recovery and Transfer Centre on the Fraser Road site, as well as a Green Waste and Organics Transfer facility to help address the needs of the South Eastern suburbs well into the future.
